Awesome Self Portraits!

Students in class 5D at Eenchokay Birchstick School in the fly-in indigenous community of Pikangikup created these awesome plasticine self portraits. The project was led by artist in residence Anne Rigby. The students made excellent use of spreading modelling and texture techniques. Classroom teacher Friel Canto encouraged the artists to take extra time, and that care and attention shows in the finished portraits. Each one is unique and personal. I feel that I have met the artists!

It’s always exciting to receive emails and photos of student art. I especially like the way art can make connections between people anywhere and everywhere. I always learn something new and I’m always inspired. Congratulations to all the artists, and thanks for sharing!
